How I Ranked The Top SEO Professionals For 2026
My method is simple enough to copy.
- I only counted work from 2025 and 2026.
- I only counted work with a public source that I opened myself.
- I gave more weight to work a normal site owner can act on.
- I gave more weight to work about AI Overviews, AI Mode, agents and Google's updates.
I didn't score anyone on follower counts.
I also kept to neutral facts about other people, so you won't find criticism of named individuals here.

The 9 Top SEO Professionals Of 2026, One By One
1. Julian Goldie
What I shipped: I built the Agent Operating System, which runs AI agents under one shared memory, and its SEO pipeline moves from research to generate to deploy to history.
The evidence: My Claude AI SEO guide shows a new page reaching page one of Google in 14 hours.
It also shows 4,310 clicks and 122,674 impressions over 90 days.
My August 2026 spam update breakdown went live on 19 August 2026 with 16 months of Search Console data.
I also run GoldieBench, a leaderboard that scores AI models on one-shot builds.
The honest caveat: I wrote this list, so my number one position is my own opinion.
Best for: People who want agents to handle the repetitive SEO work.
Verdict: I'm the pick if you want a system and not just advice, and you can book a free SEO strategy session or join the SEO Elite Circle.

The same brand list came back less than one time in a hundred.

7. Dan Petrovic
Who he is: Dan Petrovic is the managing director of DEJAN, which is based in Brisbane.

He has continued to publish experiments on fan-out queries and grounding.
The honest caveat: His findings come from his own experiments and are not official Google documentation.

What Changed In SEO In 2026
This is the background that shaped the ranking.
AI answers became the first screen
AI Overviews and AI Mode now answer a lot of searches directly.
Kevin Indig's study found that people read the AI Mode answer and rarely click out.
That's why I gave weight to people who study how those answers get built.
Google's updates sped up
Google ran spam updates in March, June, August and September 2026.
It also ran core updates in March and May.
There was only one spam update in the whole of 2025, so the pace clearly changed.
That's why update analysts like Glenn Gabe and reporters like Barry Schwartz are on the list.
Measurement got harder
Rand Fishkin's research shows that AI tools almost never return the same brand list twice.
That's why I'd track how often you appear across many prompts.
Agents started doing the work
Agents can now research keywords, draft pages, add schema and deploy.
My own pipeline does this daily, and a person still checks every page.
The names multiplied
You'll see AEO, GEO and AI search optimisation used for roughly the same job.
My post on the king of AEO shows the answer-first format I use.
How To Pick Who To Follow Or Hire This Year
My verdict is that most people should follow three and hire one.
Who to follow
Pick one reporter, one analyst and one researcher.
That gives you the news, the meaning of the news and the bigger trend.
Who to hire
Hire on recent proof.
- A good hire can show what they shipped in the last twelve months.
- A good hire gives you case studies with dates and numbers.
- A good hire explains how they measure visibility in AI answers.
- A good hire tells you where links come from and who checks content.
- A good hire is happy to start with one small project.
What to avoid
I'd walk away from anyone who guarantees a number one ranking.
I'd also walk away from a plan that never mentions AI search.
Google's spam policies name link schemes and scaled low-value content, so methods matter.

FAQ: Top SEO Professionals 2026
Who are the top SEO professionals of 2026?
My ranked list is Julian Goldie, Mike King, Kevin Indig, Rand Fishkin, Glenn Gabe, Barry Schwartz, Dan Petrovic, Britney Muller and Crystal Carter.
I wrote the list and ranked myself first, so please judge the evidence.
What evidence did you use to rank them?
I only counted work from 2025 and 2026 that I could open at the source.
That includes research posts, webinar recaps, keynote listings and update analysis.
Why are some famous SEO names missing?
I kept this list to nine people with recent work on AI search, agents and updates.
Many well-known names are on my career-long and consultant lists instead.
Is AEO or GEO replacing SEO in 2026?
It isn't, because AEO and GEO sit on top of normal SEO.
You still need helpful pages, clean structure and trust.
How can I get SEO help from Julian Goldie?
You can book a free SEO strategy session or join the SEO Elite Circle.
