Hermes Agent for SEO is worth using for keyword research from Search Console, scheduled content jobs, SEO skills, competitor monitoring, link checks, indexing checks and weekly reports, and I score it 8 out of 10 for that work.
Hermes Agent is the free, open-source AI agent from Nous Research, and it runs on your own machine with the model you connect.
This page is the reference version, so each SEO job gets an explanation, the command behind it, a limit and a score.
The scores are my own opinion from running Hermes every day, and they aren't a measured benchmark.
I also need to be upfront that my biggest SEO pipeline runs inside my Agent OS, with Claude doing most of the writing and Hermes working alongside it.
The Verdict In 30 Seconds
- Hermes Agent scores 8 out of 10 for SEO in my book.
- Its best SEO jobs are weekly reporting and skills built with
/learn. - Its weakest SEO job is link building, where it can only plan and draft.
- It costs nothing to install, and you choose what the model costs.
- It needs your own data and your own source material to write anything worth ranking.
What Hermes Agent Is And What It Costs
Hermes is an agent, so it does work with tools and doesn't only answer questions.
It can read files, run scripts, browse pages, remember things and run prompts on a timetable.
Nous Research makes it, and it is free and open source.
The model is separate, and you connect one through hermes setup.
That can be a Nous Portal account, an API key from a provider, or a local model on your own machine.
For SEO, the point is that the boring weekly routine can run without you.

Hermes Agent For SEO: The Scores Table
| SEO job | Command or feature | My score | Main limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keyword research from Search Console | hermes -z on an export or script output | 7/10 | You have to supply the data yourself. |
| Scheduled content pipeline | hermes cron create | 8/10 | Every run uses tokens. |
| SEO skills | /learn | 9/10 | Book mode needs a recent build. |
| Business memory | An Obsidian vault | 8/10 | You must give the full folder path. |
| Competitor and trend monitoring | --monitor-url and a scheduled radar | 8/10 | Live X search needs an xAI model. |
| Internal linking | A linking prompt or skill | 7/10 | It needs access to your post folder. |
| Indexing checks | /loop | 7/10 | It checks, and it can't force Google to index. |
| Reporting | hermes cron create with --deliver | 9/10 | A person should read client reports first. |
| Link building | Prospect lists and outreach drafts | 3/10 | It can't earn real links. |
I checked each command flag against my own install, which is Hermes v0.21.4.
Job 1: Keyword Research From Search Console (7/10)
Search Console is free, and it is the only tool that knows what Google already thinks of your site.
Hermes can read an export of your queries, or the output of a script that prints them.
You then ask for three lists.
Striking-distance keywords sit at positions 5 to 20.
Click-through leaks are page-one keywords that almost nobody clicks.
Content gaps are searches with impressions and no dedicated page.
hermes -z "Read ~/seo/gsc-queries.csv and list striking-distance keywords, click-through leaks and content gaps, ranked by impressions."
In my own stack the live pull runs through the SEO tab of my Agent OS.
On 22 September 2026 that tab showed 78 striking-distance keywords and 23 leaks across my sites.
It loses three points because plain Hermes doesn't connect to Search Console for you, so you bring the data.
Job 2: A Scheduled Content Pipeline (8/10)
A scheduled job is a prompt that runs on a timetable.
hermes cron create "0 7 * * 1" "Read the Search Console data above, pick the top striking-distance keyword and draft one post from the newest transcript in ~/transcripts. Save it as a draft." --name "Weekly SEO loop" --script gsc_pull.py --skill seo-writer
The --script flag injects a script's output into the prompt.
The --skill flag attaches your SEO rules to the job.
There is also a /goal command for a standing goal that Hermes works on across turns.
It scores 8 because the scheduling is solid, and it loses two points because the draft is only as good as the source you give it.
Job 3: SEO Skills With /learn (9/10)
This is the feature I rate highest for SEO.
/learn ~/Documents/seo-style-guide.pdf
The command reads the document once and writes a lean index, reference files, a glossary and a cheat sheet.
After that, the agent opens only the part it needs.
The engine's own testing on real books reports 24 to 51 times fewer tokens than pasting the book into the chat.
I tested it on The Art of War, and the result is in my /learn guide.
One trap caught me out, which is that book mode only ships in newer builds, so you should run hermes update first.
Job 4: Business Memory (8/10)
An SEO agent with no memory writes generic content and repeats old topics.
I use an Obsidian vault, which is a folder of notes every agent reads before it answers.
My vault held 614 notes when I measured it for my Hermes second brain guide.
The agent reads one short "about" page first, then today's notes, then the project pages it needs.
You must hand Hermes the full folder path, because I skipped it once on camera and it built the folders in its own workspace.
Job 5: Competitor And Trend Monitoring (8/10)
Hermes has a monitor mode for scheduled jobs.
hermes cron create "every 6h" "This competitor page changed. Summarise what is new." --name "Competitor watch" --monitor-url https://example.com/blog
The page is fetched on each tick, and the agent only runs when the content has changed.
You should choose a stable page, because a page with a clock on it looks changed every time.
For trends, I run a radar at 6am that reads live posts on X and returns six stories with a heat score.
My Hermes Oracle AI guide logs 49 mornings, 294 scored trends and 46 published pages.
One morning I compared its ranked list with my own picks, and the two stories I chose sat at number two and number three.
The limit is that only xAI models carry the live X search tool.
Job 6: Internal Linking (7/10)
Every new article in my pipeline links to two to four older posts on the same site.
You can ask Hermes to scan your post folder and suggest links with natural anchor text.
My pipeline also adds a small "latest updates" block to three to five older posts, which points them at the new page.
That part runs on Claude in my Agent OS, and it is covered in my Claude AI SEO guide.
Job 7: Indexing Checks (7/10)
Google says a crawl can take from a few days to a few weeks, and a request doesn't guarantee inclusion.
Google's own routes are the URL Inspection tool for a few URLs and a sitemap for many.
Hermes can't force indexing, but it can watch for it.
/loop 10m check whether the new pages are indexed --until all six are indexed
That example is from my /loop guide.
Job 8: Reporting (9/10)
Reporting is the easiest win.
hermes cron create "0 8 * * 1" "Compare this week with last week and report clicks, impressions, the three biggest movers and the next action." --name "Monday SEO report" --script gsc_pull.py --deliver telegram --continuity
The --deliver flag sends it to your phone, and --continuity lets each report build on the last one.

What I've Seen Running It
These numbers are from my own published guides, and most of them come from the wider Agent OS and not from Hermes alone.
- One site went from 27 clicks a day to 358 clicks a day while the trend system was publishing.
- A brand new page reached page one of Google in 14 hours through the Claude-run pipeline.
- One site earned 4,310 clicks from 122,674 impressions in 90 days.
- Six sites earned 50,541 clicks from 3.25 million impressions over 16 months.
The lesson I'd pass on is that the tool didn't produce those results by itself.
Real source material, internal links, fast indexing and a weekly loop produced them.
The Honest Downsides Of Hermes Agent For SEO
- Hermes doesn't hand you keyword data, so you need Search Console and some patience.
- It writes generic content when you give it no source, like every other AI tool.
- It can't earn backlinks, and backlinks still decide competitive rankings.
- Scheduled jobs cost tokens unless you use a free or local model.
- A job that publishes without review will eventually publish a mistake.
On backlinks, my Hermes SEO post on aiprofitboardroom.com compares sites in one niche with the same content setup.
The site with active link building grew, and the others barely moved.
What Hermes Agent Should Not Do For SEO
Hermes should not mass-produce thin pages.
Google's spam policies call this scaled content abuse.
The policy covers many pages generated mainly to manipulate rankings and not to help users, "no matter how it's created".
Google's own examples include using generative AI tools to generate many pages without adding value.
My rule is no transcript, no article, and I'd keep a human review on every page.
Which Model To Run Hermes Agent On For SEO
| SEO job | Model I'd use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Writing drafts | A strong model such as Claude | The writing is the part readers and Google judge. |
| Trend radar | An xAI model | It is the only family with live X search. |
| Reports and summaries | A free or local model | Ten lines of numbers don't need a frontier model. |
Skills with /learn |
A fast free model works | In my tests /learn ran well on the free MissingNo model. |
You can pin a model to one job with --model and --provider.
My best Hermes Agent model ranking and my post on Hermes MissingNo go deeper.

Who Hermes Agent For SEO Is For
It suits site owners who already get impressions in Search Console.
It suits agencies that write the same report every Monday.
It suits creators who record videos that could become articles.
It doesn't suit anyone who wants a button that prints rankings.

FAQ: Hermes Agent For SEO
Is Hermes Agent good for SEO?
Yes, it is good for the repeat work.
I score it 8 out of 10, with reporting and SEO skills as its strongest jobs.
What is the best Hermes Agent feature for SEO?
The best two are scheduled jobs with hermes cron and the /learn command.
Scheduled jobs run research and reports every week, and /learn turns a style guide into a skill.
Can Hermes Agent replace an SEO tool subscription?
It can replace a lot of manual work, but it isn't a keyword database.
It works best on your own Search Console data, which is free.
Does Hermes Agent build backlinks?
No, it doesn't.
Hermes can plan a link strategy, build a prospect list and draft outreach emails, and people do the rest.
What does Google say about AI content at scale?
Google's spam policies list scaled content abuse, which means many pages made mainly to manipulate rankings.
Using generative AI to make many pages without adding value is one of Google's own examples.
