The best Hermes Agent VPS in 2026 is the Hostinger KVM 2, and it wins my scoring because it pairs 2 vCPU and 8GB of RAM with a one-click Hermes Agent template at $8.99 a month on promo.

Hermes Cloud comes second as the best no-server option, and Oracle Cloud Always Free comes third as the best free server.

This page is the reference version of that verdict.

You'll get the scores first, then one section per host with the specs, the price, the strengths and the weaknesses.

Every price was checked on the provider's own pricing page on 10 October 2026.

The scores are my own judgement, not lab measurements.

I run Hermes daily on a Mac and I've deployed Hermes Cloud, but I haven't run Hermes on every VPS here, so I scored the servers on their published specs, their published prices and the official Hermes docs.

Best Hermes Agent VPS: Top 3 At A Glance

  • ๐Ÿฅ‡ Hostinger KVM 2 scores highest overall, because it has the best mix of memory, price and setup speed.
  • ๐Ÿฅˆ Hermes Cloud scores highest for ease, because Nous Research runs the whole thing for you.
  • ๐Ÿฅ‰ Oracle Cloud Always Free scores highest for price, because it costs nothing.

The Scores: Every Hermes Agent VPS Option Rated

I scored each option out of 10 on four things and averaged them.

Rank Option Price Specs for Hermes Ease of setup Low risk Overall
1 Hostinger KVM 2 8 9 9 7 8.3
2 Hermes Cloud 7 7 10 8 8.0
3 Oracle Cloud Always Free 10 9 4 5 7.0
4 Hetzner Cloud Not scored 7 6 8 7.0
5 DigitalOcean 5 7 7 8 6.8
6 Contabo 9 9 5 4 6.8
7 Vultr Not scored Not scored Not scored Not scored Not scored

I left a score blank wherever I couldn't see the data on the provider's own page today.

An overall score with a blank is the average of the scores I could give, and Vultr has no score at all because I couldn't check anything on its page.

How I Scored Each Hermes Agent VPS

Price is the monthly cost on the provider's page, with points lost for a high renewal price or a long lock-in.

Specs for Hermes is how much memory and CPU you get for an agent that may run a browser.

Ease of setup is how many steps sit between paying and messaging your agent.

Low risk covers lock-in, surprise bills and the chance of losing the server.

What Hermes Agent Actually Requires From A Server

You can't judge a host until you know what the software needs, so here are the official facts.

Requirement What the official Hermes sources say
Operating systems Linux, macOS, WSL2, native Windows and Android through Termux are supported.
Linux architectures Linux on x86_64 and aarch64 is listed as Tier 1.
Tested Linux The docs say the team tests on the latest Ubuntu and WSL2.
Prerequisites The install script needs Git, curl, tar and SHA-256 utilities.
Runtime The installer sets up its own Python 3.14, Node.js, ripgrep and FFmpeg.
Minimum RAM and CPU The docs don't publish a figure, and the README says it can run on a $5 VPS.
Licence Hermes Agent is open source under the MIT licence.

The README line about a $5 VPS is true for a light agent.

The installer also adds a browser tool with a pinned Chromium by default, and that is what pushes me towards more memory.

Nous sizes its own smallest Hermes Cloud instance at 2GB of RAM and 2 vCPUs, so I treat 2GB as the practical floor.

Feature-By-Feature: The 7 Best Hermes Agent VPS Options

1. Hostinger KVM 2 โ€” 8.3 out of 10

Detail What I found
Specs The plan has 2 vCPU, 8GB of RAM, 100GB of NVMe and 8TB of bandwidth.
Price The Hostinger VPS page showed $8.99 a month on promo and $14.99 a month on renewal.
Hermes support Hostinger's Hermes Agent cost guide says its template installs Hermes Agent in one click.
Smaller plan The KVM 1 has 1 vCPU and 4GB of RAM at $6.49 a month on promo, renewing at $11.99.

The strength is that you get 8GB of RAM and a ready-made template at a low entry price.

The weakness is that the promo rate is paid upfront and the renewal price is noticeably higher.

Best for: most people who want a real server.

2. Hermes Cloud โ€” 8.0 out of 10

Detail What I found
Who runs it Nous Research, the makers of Hermes Agent, run it.
Standard size Standard has 2GB of RAM, 2 vCPUs and 10 concurrent sessions for $0.51 a day running.
Pro size Pro has 4GB of RAM, 4 vCPUs and 20 concurrent sessions for $0.99 a day running.
Stopped rate A stopped agent costs $0.03 a day for storage.
Minimum You need $2 in credits or an active subscription to deploy.
Channels The Hermes Cloud page lists Telegram, Discord, Slack, Email and CLI.

The strength is that there is no server to patch, and Nous says setup takes two clicks and about 60 seconds.

The weakness is that inference and tool usage are billed on top of the instance price, and the Standard size has less memory than a cheap VPS.

Best for: people who want an always-on agent and no admin.

3. Oracle Cloud Always Free โ€” 7.0 out of 10

Detail What I found
Free Arm compute Oracle's Always Free docs describe it as equivalent to 2 OCPUs and 12GB of memory for Always Free tenancies.
Free AMD compute You can also have two micro instances with 1GB of memory each.
Storage and data The tier includes 200GB of block storage and 10TB of outbound data a month.
Idle rule Oracle can reclaim instances it deems idle over a 7-day period.

The strength is 12GB of memory for nothing, on an architecture Hermes supports.

The weakness is the idle reclamation rule and a console that is harder to learn than the others.

Best for: technical users on a zero budget.

4. Hetzner Cloud โ€” 7.0 out of 10

Detail What I found
Plans The regular performance range lists CPX12 with 1 vCPU and 2GB, and CPX22 with 2 vCPU, 4GB and 80GB of NVMe.
Locations The plan pages list German and Finnish data centres, plus US and Singapore locations.
Price The prices did not load on Hetzner's page for me on 10 October 2026, so check current pricing.

The strength is a wide choice of sensible mid-sized plans in European data centres.

The weakness for this review is simply that I couldn't confirm a price today.

Best for: people who want a European server.

5. DigitalOcean โ€” 6.8 out of 10

Detail What I found
2GB Droplet The plan with 1 vCPU, 2GB of RAM and 50GB of SSD costs $12 a month.
4GB Droplet The plan with 2 vCPUs, 4GB of RAM and 80GB of SSD costs $24 a month.
Entry plan There is a 1GB Droplet at $6 a month on the Droplet pricing page.

The strength is a clean dashboard and simple monthly prices with no promo tricks.

The weakness is that you pay more for each gigabyte of memory than you do elsewhere on this list.

Best for: first-time server owners.

6. Contabo โ€” 6.8 out of 10

Detail What I found
Cloud VPS 4 The plan has 4 vCPU, 8GB of RAM and 100GB of SSD from โ‚ฌ4.40 a month.
Cloud VPS 6 The plan has 6 vCPU and 12GB of RAM from โ‚ฌ6.00 a month.
Term Contabo's page says the displayed price is the effective monthly rate for a 24-month subscription.

The strength is the most memory per euro of anything I checked.

The weakness is that the headline price depends on a two-year commitment.

Best for: budget buyers who are sure they'll keep the server.

7. Vultr โ€” not scored

Vultr is a well-known VPS provider, but its pricing page blocked my check on 10 October 2026.

I'm not going to list specs or prices that I haven't seen myself.

Check current pricing on Vultr's site before you compare it with the others.

Best for: people who already have a Vultr account.

API Model Vs Local Model: The Sizing Verdict

This is the decision that changes which host you should buy.

Where the model runs Server you need My verdict
An API such as Nous Portal or OpenRouter 2GB to 8GB of RAM and 1 to 2 vCPU This is the right setup for a VPS.
A local model on the VPS itself A GPU server A normal VPS is the wrong tool for this job.
A local model on your own Mac No VPS at all This is the best free route for building and testing.

A normal VPS has no GPU.

A model smart enough to call tools reliably will run too slowly on CPU alone to be a useful agent.

I run local models on my own Mac, and I showed that route in the video below.

If the model choice is your real question, my best Hermes Agent model ranking covers it properly.

VPS Vs Local Mac Vs Hermes Cloud: The Verdict Table

Factor Your own VPS Local Mac Hermes Cloud
Always on Yes Only while the Mac is awake Yes
Hosting bill A fixed monthly price None $0.51 to $0.99 a day while running
Admin work You do it all You do very little Nous does it
Local models Not practical without a GPU Yes No
Control over the machine Full Full Limited to the agent's workspace

My verdict is that a Mac is the best place to build, and a server or Hermes Cloud is the best place to leave an agent running.

If you haven't picked your overall stack yet, my best Hermes Agent setup ranking compares the routes.

How To Set Up Hermes On An Oracle VPS

One of my viewers asked for this, so here is the reference version.

Step Command or action What it does
1 Create an Ubuntu instance with the VM.Standard.A1.Flex shape at 2 OCPUs and 12GB. This stays inside the Always Free allowance.
2 ssh -i your-key ubuntu@YOUR_SERVER_IP This connects you with the SSH key Oracle gave you.
3 sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y This patches the server.
4 sudo adduser --disabled-password --gecos "" hermes then sudo -iu hermes This creates a non-root user to own the agent.
5 curl -fsSL https://hermes-agent.nousresearch.com/install.sh | bash This runs the official install script.
6 hermes setup then hermes doctor This configures the model and checks for problems.
7 hermes gateway setup This connects Telegram with your BotFather token.
8 hermes gateway install then hermes gateway start This runs the gateway as a background service.
9 sudo loginctl enable-linger hermes from the ubuntu user This keeps the service alive after you log out.

The Telegram gateway uses polling by default, so no inbound port needs to be open.

Set TELEGRAM_ALLOWED_USERS to your own numeric user ID, which you can get from @userinfobot.

The docs also describe sudo hermes gateway install --system for headless hosts that should come back at boot.

For private access to the dashboard, install Tailscale on the server rather than opening a public port.

My sister site has the same Oracle setup as a full walkthrough.

Security Checklist For Any Hermes Agent VPS

Control What to do Why it matters
User Run Hermes as a non-root user without sudo. A mistake by the agent can't change the whole system.
Login Use SSH keys and leave password logins off. Password logins are what bots attack first.
Firewall Allow SSH and nothing else. Telegram polling needs no inbound port.
Gateway access Keep the allowlist and never set GATEWAY_ALLOW_ALL_USERS=true. The docs say that setting is not recommended for bots with terminal access.
Keys Keep API keys in ~/.hermes/.env on the server. Keys pasted into chats get leaked.
Updates Run hermes update regularly. You get fixes as they ship.
Audit Run hermes security. It audits your plugins and MCP servers for known supply-chain issues.
Backups Run hermes backup. You can restore on a new server with hermes import.

The Honest Running Costs

Cost What the provider's page showed on 10 Oct 2026
Nous Portal Free The plan is $0 with free models only and $0 of monthly credits.
Nous Portal Plus The plan is $20 a month with $22 of monthly credits.
Hermes Cloud Standard The instance is $0.51 a day running, which is about $15.30 for 30 days.
Hostinger KVM 2 The server is $8.99 a month on promo and $14.99 on renewal.
Oracle Always Free The server is free within the limits.

The server is the predictable part of the bill, and the model is the part that grows with use.

Free models keep the model line at zero, but they change over time and get rate limited.

I tested a free brain in my Solar Mini 4 Hermes review, and it's a sensible way to trial a server before you pay for tokens.

There are also third-party managed hosts, and I looked at one in my earlier best Hermes VPS post on the AI Profit Boardroom blog.

Who Should Skip A VPS Entirely?

You should skip a VPS if you only use your agent while you're sitting at your computer.

You should skip it if you want to run local models, because that's a job for your own hardware.

You should also skip it if the idea of patching a Linux box makes you want to close this tab, because Hermes Cloud exists for you.

My free Hermes Agent OS review shows what the no-server route looks like.

FAQ: Best Hermes Agent VPS

Which VPS is best for Hermes Agent in 2026?

My winner is the Hostinger KVM 2, with 2 vCPU, 8GB of RAM and a one-click Hermes template.

It was $8.99 a month on promo and $14.99 on renewal when I checked on 10 October 2026.

What are the official system requirements for Hermes Agent?

Hermes supports Linux, macOS, WSL2, native Windows and Android through Termux.

The docs don't publish a minimum RAM or CPU figure.

Is Oracle Cloud Always Free good enough for Hermes Agent?

It is good enough on specs, because you get 12GB of memory on a supported Arm architecture.

The risk is that Oracle can reclaim idle Always Free instances.

How much does Hermes Cloud cost?

Standard is $0.51 a day running and Pro is $0.99 a day running, with $0.03 a day when stopped.

Model and tool usage are billed on top.

Can a VPS run a local model for Hermes Agent?

A normal VPS has no GPU, so I wouldn't try it.

You should use an API model on the server and keep local models on your own machine.

My Verdict

Hostinger KVM 2 wins on balance, Hermes Cloud wins on ease, and Oracle wins on price.

I'd start with whichever of those three matches your patience for server work.
