Grok Bot shopping earns a 7.5 out of 10 from me: the product cards and order tracking are strong, and the payment rules need one setting from you to be safe.
I rated it from the official Vault docs, the approvals and security page and the Grok Bot changelog up to v0.78.1 on October 27, 2026.
Every score below comes with the line from the docs that drove it.

The verdict in four sentences
Grok Bot shopping is a good research assistant and a careful order tracker.
It keeps card numbers away from the model, which is the right call.
Its weak point is a gap between the release notes, which talk about approving every purchase, and the docs, which say a saved card fills in without asking.
Add an Ask first rule for purchases and the score goes up.
The rest of this page shows the working behind each number.
Grok Bot shopping scorecard
Ratings are my editorial judgment from the documentation, not lab tests.
A 9 means the docs describe a behavior I'd trust with real money as written.
A 5 means it works but needs a workaround for most teams.
| Criterion | Rating | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Product discovery | 8/10 | Cards show photos, rating, price, store and up to two badges, with three or four results per carousel (v0.78.1). |
| Order approval | 7/10 | Buy now starts an order you approve, but the Vault docs say a saved card has no per-use approval setting. |
| Payment options | 8/10 | Shop Pay, X Money, Link, a Vault card or a one-chat Secure Form card are all documented. |
| Card privacy | 9/10 | The Bot never sees a saved card number or security code, and Vault shows only the last four digits. |
| Order tracking | 8/10 | The Bot reports when an order ships and arrives, with carrier and stage on shipment cards. |
| Subscription tools | 7/10 | Three templates shipped in v0.78.1, but the release note gives only a one-line summary for each. |
| Control and rules | 8/10 | Ask first rules always stop matching actions and beat Allow rules when both match. |
| Team use | 5/10 | Vault is account-wide with no per-Bot limits, and shared Bots don't support Vault. |
The average of those eight rows is 7.5.
What I based the verdict on
This review uses three primary sources only.
Where a feature appears only in a release note with no docs page, I scored it lower, because buyers need written behavior to rely on.
- The x.ai changelog for Grok Bot, read on October 31, 2026, for v0.70.2 through v0.78.1.
- The Vault payment section, which covers saved cards, wallets and Link one-time cards.
- The Auto Review and Ask first rules page, which covers approval cards and rules.
Plan access comes from the X Subscription docs: Premium, Super and Ultra include Grok Bot, and Plus doesn't.
Strength: product cards that save comparison time
The v0.78.1 cards put the four things you compare on every product into one view: photo, rating, price and store.
Up to two badges, such as Top rated, sit on top.
Results come three or four at a time in a carousel.
Open a product and the in-stock options show first, which skips the most annoying part of online buying.
For a buyer, the badge is the least useful field and the store name is the most useful, because it tells you who handles the return.
The rating helps you skip obvious duds before you open anything.

Strength: card numbers never reach the model
Per the Vault docs, the model never gets to read stored passwords, full card numbers or security codes.
When a page needs your card, a Secure Form fills it straight into the page.
A filled form says the secret values were never shown to your Bot.
Since v0.68.1, checkout card fields get a Secure Form instead of a screen handoff.
That earns the highest score on the card.
Saved values are write-only, so even you can't read a stored number back in the app.
Strength: it follows the order after you pay
Most buying assistants stop at the confirmation page.
In v0.78.1 the Bot stays on the order after payment, reporting dispatch and delivery.
Carrier name and progress stage appear on a shipment card.
Digital orders get a tidier card too, since the Ship to line is dropped when nothing ships.
In v0.77.0, Order Concierge added tracking for refunds and returns, and Deal Watcher added price and coupon watching.
Payment routes, rated for control
The docs describe five ways a Bot can pay, and they don't all give you the same level of control.
| Route | How approval works | Control rating |
|---|---|---|
| Card saved in Vault | Fills in at checkout with no per-use prompt, so an Ask first rule carries the load | 5/10 |
| Card in a Secure Form, save box unchecked | Used for that chat only, then gone | 8/10 |
| Link one-time card | You approve a single card showing merchant, items and total | 9/10 |
| Shop Pay | Shop checkout where accepted, a one-time Shop card elsewhere (v0.75.2) | 7/10 |
| X Money | Connected wallet, linked automatically when you connect X (v0.75.5) | 7/10 |
Link wins on control because the approval sits on the payment itself, not only on the order.
The saved card scores lowest for the opposite reason.
Shop Pay and X Money sit in the middle: convenient, but your Ask first rule is doing the real work.
Limit: the saved-card wording doesn't match the release notes
This is the biggest deduction on the scorecard.
v0.77.0 says that with the new Payments tab, "you still approve every purchase."
v0.78.1 says Buy now starts an order you approve.
Yet the Vault page states that stored cards are entered at checkout with no prompt per use, and no toggle adds one.
Read together, the approval sits on the order, not on the card.
If you want a hard stop on every payment, the docs tell you not to save the card, or to remove it in Settings, Vault.
My recommendation is an Ask first rule for every purchase on top of that.
Limit: one Vault covers every Bot
Vault is account-wide.
One saved card is usable by all your Bots, with no way to tie it to a single Bot.
Shared Bots skip Vault entirely, so a team buying Bot has to work another way.
That's why team use scores a 5.
Hints help a little.
You can tag an entry with a note like "Use for work purchases" and the Bot follows it when choosing, but that's guidance, not a lock.
Limit: the templates are thinly documented
Three templates arrived in v0.78.1: Find unused subscriptions, Watch subscription prices, and Try it, don't pay for it.
Only the first gets a real description: it starts a free trial and cancels or reminds you before it bills.
The changelog adds that Bots confirm with you before changing anything.
I'd like a full docs page on each before scoring them higher.
For Find unused subscriptions and Watch subscription prices, the release note gives little beyond the template name.
Until there's more, treat both as research helpers and keep cancellations behind an Ask first rule.
Who should use Grok Bot shopping
- Owners who reorder the same supplies and want price and stock comparisons done for them.
- Anyone already on Premium, Super or Ultra who wants tracking without opening carrier sites.
- People who test a lot of software and forget trial end dates.
- Users happy to set Ask first rules and answer approval cards.
If two or more of those fit you, turn it on this week.
Start with research requests, then move to small approved orders once the cards look right.
Who should skip it for now
- Teams that need one shared buying Bot, since shared Bots can't use Vault.
- Anyone who wants to save a card and never think about approvals.
- People on the Plus plan, which doesn't include Grok Bot.
- Anyone who won't be around to answer cards raised by routines, which expire after 30 minutes.
None of these is permanent.
Team support and fuller template docs are the two changes that would bring most of this group back.

Three settings that lift the score
- Add an Ask first rule for purchases in Settings, General, Custom Rules. The docs say Ask first wins when both rule types match.
- Pay with a wallet. With Link, the Bot asks you to approve a one-time card showing the merchant, items and total.
- Leave Securely save to Bot's vault unchecked when you enter a card in a Secure Form.
The approval card itself is well designed.
Allow once runs the action without saving a rule, Always allow saves an Allow rule, and Deny ends the attempt.
Cards raised by a chat you started never expire on a timer, while background ones close after 30 minutes.
That's sensible behavior for money, and it's why control scores an 8 before you change anything.
With those three in place, I'd move order approval from 7 to 9.
The overall score would then be 7.75.
Final verdict
Compared with buying by hand, the time win is in comparison and tracking, not in the click to pay.
That's the right split, because the click to pay is the one step you should never hand away.
Grok Bot shopping is worth turning on if you already have an eligible plan.
The discovery cards, private card handling and tracking are well built.
The approval story needs one rule from you to be airtight.

FAQ: Grok Bot Shopping Verdict
What is the overall Grok Bot shopping score?
7.5 out of 10, averaged across eight criteria rated from the official docs and changelog. Adding three safety settings lifts it to 7.75.
What is the weakest part of Grok Bot shopping?
Team use. Vault is shared by every Bot on an account with no per-Bot limits, and shared Bots don't support Vault at all.
Is Grok Bot shopping better than buying by hand?
For comparison and tracking, yes: cards show rating, price and store, and shipment cards report carrier and stage. You still make the final buying call.
Are the subscription templates worth using?
Try it, don't pay for it is the clearest, since it cancels or reminds you before a trial bills. The other two have only short release-note descriptions so far.
Which plans include Grok Bot shopping?
Grok Bot comes with the Premium, Super and Ultra plans of The X Subscription. The Plus plan doesn't include it.
